Cut determines how a diamond captures and returns light.
Imagine a diamond as a collection of tiny, angled mirrors. A standard round brilliant cut diamond features 57 or 58 of these mirrors, known as "facets." These facets work together to reflect light, bounce it within the diamond, disperse it into a spectrum of colors, and return it to your eye, creating the signature brilliance.
The quality of a diamond's cut relies heavily on its facets. Their angles, sizes, arrangement, and surface quality are all crucial factors that determine the sparkle and radiance you see when viewing the diamond from above.
